Leeds – Yorkshire’s Cosmopolitan Centre
The county may have been named after York, but Leeds is the biggest city, with more shopping centres, architecture and variety than any.
In Leeds we’ll take you through the full range of scenes – big buildings, modern car parks, victorian gems and the river/canal basin.
What We’ll Shoot
We meet at the Town Hall in the morning – this is a great area with a large, safe space in which to talk over ideas with gallery, library and town hall itself to shoot.
From here we’ll head towards the new “cheesegrater” car park in the university – via Milennium Square, with the beautiful Civic Hall and Leeds Museum.
The car park is very modern – great to create both abstract images and huge creative wide angle shots.
Next we’ll head to Broadcasting Tower – the second ultra-modern building which looms over the old BBC Leeds house.
After this we head back town-wards – via the Dry Dock, the Leeds Arena and old church just of Upper Briggate.
We’ll then go down Briggate into the Victoria Quarter, the stunning County arcade and capture some of the best high-victorian arcades in the UK.
From here we have the Market facade, the brand new Victoria Gate complex and to finish – the huge round Corn exchange.
What we’ll learn
City tours are all about:-
- big buildings – architecture techniques and HDR
- story telling – looking out for funny or poignant scenes – stickers, syringes, lost shoes….
- interiors – if we can get inside cathedrals, they’re a great place to shoot
- people – learn some street techniques, how to capture people going about their daily business
What to bring
I’d suggest long lenses for people and story telling photography, and wide lenses for architecture and interiors
Tripods are great for HDR and architecture – especially interiors where it may be dark
Filters are not as important – but a polariser will be useful for blue skies, glass reflections and canals.
Who is it for?
Everyone – this is a tour in a safe group, so advanced people can discover great new locatiuons, beginners can learn about composition etc.
