2 trips for 2020

Choose the right one for you

Trip 1

This is the one for people who want to enjoy the views without walking far – we’ll be parking near stunning views, keeping the walking to a minimum. Ideal for those with limited mobility and less active, or who just want a very relaxed experience.

This group tends to enjoy spending evenings at the farm house and earlier nights.

Trip 2

This is the one for people who are happy to spend the days walking through the landscape. This will be walking around lakes, up gorges and through woods to find natural wonders of the Austrian landscape.

It’s far from a “walking” holiday as we’ll be carrying heavy camera bags, stopping regularly to create photographs and helping you learn new skills, so if you do want a mountaineering experience, this will not fulfil that need. Expect moderate walking of a few miles over varied terrain each day to find new angles on subjects, different foregrounds and alternative lighting patterns.

This group enjoys both evenings at the farm and also 1 or 2 trips into the village to visit the local nightlife and restaurants.

What We Do….

Our photography holidays are designed to be fun, relaxing and offer some of the most stunning views in the Austrian Alps.

Essentially its a Landscape Photography break, but we do visit cities, churches, farm animals and even people working on the farm.

Based in the Wilder Kaiser mountains, these are stunning and make fantastic images at any time, even star photos on dark evenings.

We offer 3 full day outings, with hosts Keith Holt and Adrian Wilson helping choose the best venues for you – based on ability, interest and the weather. It may be 1 venue or several stops – we are very flexible.

A typical day:-

• Breakfast – traditional Austrian, with “home grown” milk and yoghurt
• Drive to first location – which we choose over breakfast
• Enjoy the location – tuition and ideas from your guides
• Lunch – a local beer and hearty traditional food
• More exploring – either a new location, or continue at the 1st
• Sunset location – and shoot till sun goes down (usually around 6-7PM)
• Return to base
• Dinner – 3 courses and a couple of glasses of beer or wine are included.
• Editing or Trip to Ellmau – usually one evening of lightroom help and another in Ellmau, typically in a restaurant to experience an evening in the village

Richard Pickering

I found the Austria trip to be absolutely fantastic experience in every aspect. If you are looking to improve your photography, look no further, or if you are after a fantastic break in a beautiful location, look no further.

The tuition was excellent and I came away with some spectacular shots thanks to the help of Ade. He really does have the ability to bring out the best in you & your camera, whatever make it is.

The accommodation is first rate thanks to Keith & family with all the food being homemade (if you get the chance, try the pumpkin soup, it’s to die for). The days are brilliantly organized towards assisting you with becoming technically & visually more aware in a location where you will not have enough space on your memory cards to capture the true beauty and grandeur of the location.

Highly recommended.

My first trip to Ade’s class in Austria was fabulous.

There were too many “best parts” to list just one. First and best-best were the new friends I made – very kind, patient and joyful people. Ade really pushed me out of my comfort zone into the completely manual shooting mode (it really isn’t that hard!).

Plus his editing techniques for landscape photos helped me get the best out of the shots I take. I visited places that I would never have seen otherwise.

I’ve travelled alone for work in the US, but this was the first time I’ve travelled to another country by myself. My experience with Ade’s class has encouraged me to keep going on solo adventures.

I have been going on the McFade Austria trips since 2013 and I have already booked to go again this year.

With Ade you have a great tutor who is more than happy to spend as much time with you as you need to help you get the most out of your camera and your photos, the locations we visit are superb and they even cater for the days where the weather isn’t on our side. His tuition is second to none I’ve learnt so much from going on these trips not just photography but post processing too.

The accommodation is fantastic our hosts Keith and Manu really do make you feel welcome and the food is traditional home made Austrian fayre which is exquisite, the rooms are exceptionally comfy and clean.

This is definitely a trip not to be missed.

Ade is great at showing us what we should be looking for at each location. He will then offer further expertise until we get the picture we really want. My pictures have improved year on year but each year I learn something new.

You don’t need the most advanced tech, a basic SLR and a lightweight tripod will still give you great results especially after learning how to get the most out of your photos at the Lightroom and Photoshop evening.

Moving onto the accommodation, the rooms are comfy and spacious with great views. The food is first class with authentic Austrian home cooking. Keith, Manu and the children have made me feel like part of their family.

In fact most of the people on the trips have become good friends and often before the holiday is finished we have booked onto the next year.

Don’t miss out.

Where we go

We try new places every year – typically we try to do:-

  • short drive day – usually within an hour of base there are lakes, gorges, towns and mountains aplenty. We use this to get everyone into the swing of things, talk about technique and do lots of tuition and tips
  • longer drive day – this will be to see something new each year. We have been to Berchtesgaden, Krimmel Waterfall, Hintertux glacier and Grossglockner High pass.

On the other day, we’ve been to Saltzburg, a deer park and even taken ski-lifts up mountain tops – it’s always dependent on the weather and what people would enjoy most.

Other photo opportunities

When you arrive it’s dark, but on a clear night, you can see the stars over the mountains – if you fancy a go at capturing these, we can stand literally meters away from the B&B and show you how it’s done

Trip home

Flights back to Manchester are around 5PM – so that leaves us with a morning free. We either head off early and stop en-route, or visit a local lake to get those last photos.

A few locations from previous workshops
