Flash Workshops

Flash Workshops

Off camera flash, often known as “Strobist”, is the most affordable way to create studio-like images at any location you like.

Our “boot camp” style tuition puts you in the driving seat – it’s practical, fun and you learn a lot of information very quickly.

Learn HDR

HDR, or High Dynamic Range….

Photography is simply the blending together 2 or more “differently exposed” images to create a photograph with more information in it.

It sounds simple yet so many people get it wrong – our HDR workshops are practical and help you create images which look “real” rather than like a cartoon.

Big thanks to Ade and Eleni for the 1-2-1 strobist workshop the other day, it was awesome!

I’ve been on a few of the Monday night taster sessions and really enjoyed the flash evenings and wanted to learn more as you are somewhat restricted on the tasters by the amount of time available and the number of people attending.

A breath of fresh air

Normanton Camera Club

Thanks for your talk at Normanton Camera Club, the members are still talking about it now, weeks later. You’ve really opened their eyes to new possibilities with their cameras.

We look forward to your next talk for our club

I am really new to photography, I have had my SRL only 4 weeks!  Having taken part in McFade’s Discover Leeds training two weeks ago and learned so much about how to compose a photograph, I booked on his second course, Taking Control.  After only 6 hours I have gone from only being able to use the auto shoot facility to now been confident in setting up the camera manually and being really in control of it.

Having always been really interested in photography I invested in a digital SLR camera, after a couple of years I hadn’t really used it other than in the automatic settings so decided it was time to see what my camera could really do.  I happened to come across an offer for a photography workshop in Leeds with McFade Training and signed up, this happened to be the best thing I ever did.  The whole day was fantastic Adrian Wilson is a great teacher and I have gone on to learn so much more than I could ever have imagined.  I have done many more workshops with McFade Training since and learnt so many new techniques including nighttime photography, HDR & photo processing in Lightroom and Photoshop.  My interest has now become a real passion and I view my surroundings in a whole new way, I can’t recommend McFade Training highly enough if you want to learn the joys of photography then Adrian is definitely your man.

“The beginners course is wonderful. Don’t hesitate – go do it, book it – right now. Seriously, stop reading the rest of this testimonial. Ade is a fantastic teacher and wizard of all things Photography. I walked away full of enthusiasm, confidence and more knowledge in 4 hours than I learnt in the past 4 months. Above all it was FUN!”

Why choose McFade?

2016 sliders vHR

Choosing photography workshops is a leap of faith!

Your first one will be daunting - but after 10 minutes on a McFade workshop, all that worry will be behind you. Our beginners workshops are both affordable, and assume you have no experience - so even if its the first time you've held a camera, you're more than welcome! In fact - they are made specifically for you!

Your teacher will be Ade Wilson, a professional commercial photographer working through out the UK. Please check out the portfolio –  CLICK HERE – The proof of a photographer's passion and skills lie in their own images, and Ade started teaching to share this passion with you.

Here are a few key things about McFade's workshops and Ade :-

  • Huge photography experience
    • HDR – An early adopter and recognised in the on-line community, and with clients throughout the UK, as one of the leading exponents of the technique. Running workshops for 5 years, published 3 times in the photography glossies… Ade’s HDR’s are often hard to spot, the holy grail of the genre – and these are the processing techniques we’ll share with you.
    • Landscape – Ade’s been taking landscapes in Yorkshire, Northumberland and the lakes for years and can offer help on composition, exposure, use of filters, processing – and help you to “see” images in the landscape.
    • Night Photography – 10 years of shooting at night, we’ve vast experience to guide you – away from the pitfalls and towards the best creative results. We have tools, tricks and skills which make our light painting nights fun, action packed and about as creative as it's possible to be with a camera!
    • Flash – Ade’s commercial work sees him making business people “look cool” using strobist techniques, proving that with the right knowledge, simple speedlites CAN work
    • Workshops and teaching - Ade started teaching 1-2-1 in the Noughties, taking people out for days and evenings and showing them how he works. After working freelance, teaching HDR, Flash, Cars and doing city tours, Ade decided to go it alone and ran his first McFade Training workshop in 2011 at Heart in Headingley, Leeds. 5 Years on, we've a massive portfolio of workshops, including the legendary Austria Experience in October.
  • Low stress – seriously stress free! It's about sharing ideas, information, skills and having fun. It's not a camera club where the same people win competitions each week, but a place to learn, experience and share.
  • Lower impact - we try to make the workshops physically easy too - so the walking easy, if there is any, is minimal. The meeting times are comfortable. We car-share or get a mini bus to make transport easy. All geared to make them accessible to as many people as possible
  • Great Value – we always give a huge amount of information in each workshop and are conscious about people's disposable incomes in these tougher times. We run "lean" workshops to help your budget; we rarely use expensive rooms, models or include meals - reducing the cost to you by up to 50%!
  • Great locations – a decade of Dales location knowledge is on offer. We now great locations in most northern cities. We know ever road in the Lake District AND where to stop!
  • Lots of Variety - all the workshops take in LOTS of locations – you will not get bored queueing up for that one shot!
